The sexual abuse of children in church-run schools continues to outrage the Australian community. But as an overwhelming number of priests, brothers and lay teachers are convicted of these heinous crimes; even more survivors, knowing they are not alone, are finding the strength to come forward with their own stories of abuse, demanding accountability from their abusers and the church.
Porters Lawyers have acted for more than a hundred men and women throughout Australia who have found the courage and strength to come forward, sometimes many years after the abuse.
We will explore your legal options in a supportive and compassionate manner, with a view to getting you the meaningful compensation you deserve from the church and calling to account those who are guilty of wrongdoing and cover-ups.
If you or a loved one has been a victim of child sexual abuse by a priest, brother, nun or lay teacher in a church-run school, contact Porters Lawyers.
WARNING CATHOLIC CHURCH’S “TOWARD HEALING”
There have been a large number of victims of child sexual assault who have complained that the Catholic Church’s representatives misrepresented to them in secret “Towards Healing” negotiations that they could never succeed at court because of time delays or that they did not know of any other complaints of abuse. The victims then settled directly with the church for a fraction of the compensation they were entitled to.
Do not contact, enter into any arrangement, or sign any documents with the Catholic Church’s “Towards Healing” group unless you have first spoken to lawyers who are specifically experienced in clergy abuse.
